The first edition of the magazine of the Hotel Employees Provident Fund called “Xenodohoypalilos” (= "Hotel Employee") was recently published. The magazine contains current and interesting subjects about the Fund and our sector in general; among other articles, an interesting historical article devoted to the unforgettable Mr. Michalis Mitas, president of the Fund before and right after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Mr. Mitas, despite the current problems of the tourist industry, through the ashes that left behind the Turkish invasion, on the 4th of November 1975 he foresaw that "the tourist future of our country appears to be hopeful” and “we should never stop hoping". He also mentioned that back then the Fund had supported its members by providing, among others, monthly financial assistance to those who have lost everything.
The magazine hosts also interviews taken by the Administrative Secretary of the Fund, Mr. Philippos Orfanos, who stated that the Fund constitutes a strong “foothold” for each hotel employee, and by Mr. Kostas Loizou, one of the founders and active officers of the Fund who stated that “We are happy since the assets of the Provident Fund from 20 thousand Cyprus Pounds in 1968 came up to 117 millions Cyprus Pounds by the 31st December 2004”.
In her salutation, Mrs. Anna Michaelides, the chairman of the Management Committee of the Fund, stated that the publication of the magazine falls within the framework of upgrading the services provided by the Committee towards its members. "The direct contact is being established and the members will be able to receive information for all matters related to the Provident Fund" she adds. In the same edition, Mr. Marinos Gialeli, General Manager of the Fund, writes about the upgrading of the Fund which aims at the value and quality.
The magazine includes also reportage on tourism, economy and historical information for the Fund, recipes for cookery, confectionary and drinks provided by Chefs and Head Barmen of hotels.
Today, the Cyprus Hotel Employees Provident Fund has more than 14.000 members and it constitutes the greatest Provident Fund of the private sector holding assets that exceed the 117 millions Cyprus Pounds.
The magazine will be sent to all the members of the Fund free of charge and this will function as an attractive factor for the enterprises which are interested to promote their products and services through our magazine.
